Importance of inharmonicity in the acoustic Guitar
نویسندگان
چکیده
Audibility of inharmonicity in realistic acoustic guitar tones was studied through formal listening experiments. Test tones were synthesized using an FZ-ARMA model of acoustic guitar sounds, which allows accurate control of the inharmonic partials. Inharmonicity was detected fairly easily for the lowest strings if the plucking transient was left out of the sound, but much harder for the full sound with transient. Detection thresholds were measured for two pitches at the low range of the guitar. Mean thresholds were close to, though above, typical amounts of inharmonicity in the guitar. Implications to digital sound synthesis are discussed.

Audibility of Inharmonicity in String Instrument Sounds, and Implications to Digital Sound Synthesis
Listening tests were conducted in order to find out the audibility of inharmonicity in musical sounds produced by string instruments, such as the piano or the guitar. The threshold of the audibility of inharmonicity was measured as a function of the inharmonicity coefficient at five fundamental frequencies. It was found that the detection of inharmonicity is strongly dependent on the fundamenta...
متن کاملAutomatic Tablature Transcription of Electric Guitar Recordings by Estimation of Score- and Instrument-Related Parameters
In this paper we present a novel algorithm for automatic analysis, transcription, and parameter extraction from isolated polyphonic guitar recordings. In addition to general score-related information such as note onset, duration, and pitch, instrumentspecific information such as the plucked string, the applied plucking and expression styles are retrieved automatically. For this purpose, we adap...
متن کاملObject-Based Sound Source Modeling for Musical Signals
This study presents a framework for audio and music processing which consists of an analysis and a synthesis path that are connected at three representational levels. Auditory signal analysis techniques include a multi-pitch analysis model, an eventdetector, and sinusoidal modeling that are combined in an iterative sound separation system. Techniques are presented for detection of perceptually ...
متن کاملUsing Boundary Element-Based Near-field Acoustic Holography to Predict the Source Pressures and Sound Field of an Acoustic Guitar
(Near-field Acoustic Holography, Audio Production, Guitar) In recording studios, the placement of microphones to record an acoustic guitar is very much subjected to trial and error and audio engineer preference. In order to make more informed microphone placement decisions, Near-field Acoustic Holography is used to study the sound pressures of the guitar. This technique involves solving the int...
متن کاملParametric Audio Coding of Bass Guitar Recordings Using a Tuned Physical Modeling Algorithm
In this paper, we propose a parametric audio coding framework that combines the analysis and re-synthesis of electric bass guitar recordings. In particular, an existing synthesis algorithm that incorporates 11 playing techniques is extended by two calibration algorithms. Both the temporal and spectral decay parameters as well as the inharmonicity coefficient are set according to the fretboard p...
